Remember who that man behind the curtain was in the start of the Wizard of Oz? He’s a snake oil salesman, all your ills cured with an inexpensive elixor. Other than a box of (rather outrageous) small print default terms, where on this page are the terms of the contract? What are the services and rates? What is the maximum and minimum use? What is AT&T’s obligation to provide service? Subscriber recourse, not here. True and clear statements of fact, how about vague assurances. Hey, it’s as good as a Countrywide mortgage.

my friend got one with a memory card, but when I got my phone, it didn’t come with any memory card,
and we all pay the same price, why didn’t I get the memory card?
I do not recommend anyone of you to buy this one.

We have had this phone two weeks on a two year contract. It was dropped on a bedroom floor and part of the screen has gone black. I called AT&T, the carrier, and was told I could not get a replacement since it was dropped and I cannot get out of the 2-year contract, again because the phone was dropped. I have dropped other phones on cement and they still work fine! My only options from AT&T are to terminate the contract at $175 or send it to Sony for repairs at at least $185 or buy a $39.99 Nokia replacement phone with no bells and whistles. Unless you are going to treat this phone as if it were an uncooked egg, BEWARE!

I have never before been motivated to write a review in my life however this phone is the worst phone that I have ever owned in my life and AT& T has been unhelpful in fixing it. Lets start by saying within the first week I needed to get a replacement since the screen broke the second day. Then when I was on vacation the bottom part come right off and then the next day it just stopped working. My insurance refused to cover this since a part was missing and had to pay over 50 dollars to do this. And a couple days later the speaker just stopped working. So now my phone works fine but won’t ring or make any noise. I talked to the AT&T and Sony Erickson people and they both refuse to fix my phone since the little dot under the battery went red. I never dropped my phone in a puddle or even had time to get wet in the rain before my speakers stopped working yet because the little red dot (moisture indicator) was detected they are at grounds to refuse fixing the phone. In my opinion this is the worst phone design that I have ever used and will go back to using the black and white phone I used before this which proves to be reliable. The W580i has only been a weight on my shoulders. If you are still convinced and set in your ways on buying this phone go to a store and check it out. Turn the phone over and try to remove the back cover (where the battery resides). When I brought the phone in the first time to get fixed the woman at the store took five minutes trying to pry it open and had to get help from another employee. She said that some of them are hard and others work fine. Thus from my numerous experiences I beg you not to buy the phone. Thanks -Sara

My wife and I both had 580i phones. AT&T customer service replaced both phones twice. That’s six phones over a six month period. Audio was very difficult to hear. Unclear sound on two of the phones. Marginal sound quality on the others. Two phones would not take a recharge properly. Factory chargers would bring up ” must use an Ericcson battery” when I was using the supplied AC charger. This happened on two of the phones. Battery could not be recharged. We are Mac people. The phones would not function with a Macintosh. The music function is is a PC only deal. All of our MP3 files were useless and could not be downloaded. We loved the size, the look, the slider, and the supposed functionality. It sometimes easily called accidentally from our pocket. The calling lock was not satisfactory. Finally all of the phones were stolen by an intruder. What a relief! AT&Ts customer service for this phone vascillated between terrible and great. Once they “forgot” to send us a replacement phone. Several support people hung-up on us – and never called back. They sent a phone to the wrong address. Others were wonderful- overnighting ASAP and treated us great! AT&T lacks oversight. Would only give us the same phones back. I am an executive with a company that includes Sony and AT&T as clients – otherwise I would leave my full name.
Never, never order a 580i. Beautiful but…
